COMMENTS Openwin in Solaris 2.4 is very slow. It was obviously built to run some older SunOS version. It has plenty of RAM, but this doesn't seem to help.

History and other comments

My brother acquired three of these machines,  I got this one. I don't have much information about its origin, but I do know it was used in a NIS network (i.e. other SUN boxes were involved) and it was first purchased by a midium sized Finnish company (in Finland).

I tried to get more speed out of it by adding the maximum amount of RAM (it takes 1 MB or 4MB 30 pin PC SIMMs) but for some reason it just seems too slow for any use. It would, however, perform very well when I tried some file transferring through it's ethernet interface (ftp). This is box was appearantly meant for 24/7 heavy network load. A good feature is that it has really low power consumption.

Update: I no longer own this system. It was sold in October 2002.
