History and other comments

I got this machine from Germany in December 2006. It was a bit heavy to ship, but I think it was worth it, to ship it all the way to Finland since it's a very good complement to my collection of DEC computers. I now have at least one VAXstation from series 2000, 3000 and 4000.

You may think that the VS2000 is a pretty large and heavy (it's about 13 kg) computer however it's actually very squeezed and compact compared to many other computers from the same time frame. Once you remove the cover of the box you will see what I mean. On this picture I have removed the top cover and the logic board frame:

As you can see the PSU and the full height disk brick is occupying most of the space inside. There is just enough room to fit in a mainboard, graphics board and a memory board on top of all of this. I think it's a bit like opening a peecee laptop, only the scale of things are like ten times bigger. Below you can see a picture of the boards that goes on top of what you see on the picture above:
