COMMENTS This is a low-end AlphaServer meant to run DEC UNIX, OpenVMS or NT. It's probably one of the smallest AlphaServers, it looks very much like an AlphaStation 250.
ESTIMATED PRICE '95 $20,000

History and other comments

This system was purchased from the company Tradec Networks Oy. I'm mentioning this here because one of the forground persons in Tradec has founded a museum in Helsinki, Finland for computer systems based on the famous Alpha CPU.

The main difference between the AlphaServer 300 and the AlphaStation 250 seems to be that the server version lacks audio card. Other than that I can't find anything but the name (on the box, and in the firmware) that would separate this server system from the workstation.

*=I think it's worth mentioning that according to the AlphaServer's manual it should be possible use the TGA PCI (DEC ZLXp-E*) card(s) with Sync-On-Green monitors. This is the only PCI card that I know of that can do that, in other words, you can use an older 3 BNC monitor if you want. These monitors always were problematic to use with PC types of computers, you usually need some kind of adapter.

In late 2005 this computer was traded for my AlphaStation 200, SGI Indy and DECstation 5000/50.
